Who We Are


A Special Place for Caring

Siena House is a Tier II Family Shelter providing transitional housing for 27 women who are pregnant or with a child under the age of three.  It is a not-for-profit, non-denominational organization, funded by the NYC Department of Homeless Services, sponsored by the Tolentine Zeiser Community Life Center.

Located in the South Bronx, Siena House, which opened in 1990, offers shelter to young homeless pregnant women and women with children under 3 years old. Services are provided to assist them in acquiring and maintaining permanent housing and independent living.

Siena House provides a safe, clean environment for women and their children while giving them support and guidance. The shelter also provides Case Management Services, housing placement assistance, limited on-site child care, women's health workshops and creative workshops.




What We Offer

Siena House Population Figures

Siena House’s main goal is to help each one of the women obtain the skills needed to provide a nurturing environment for their family as they pursue permanent housing and independent living. The shelter provides: 
  • Three nutritious meals daily
  • Limited on-site child care
  • Goal setting 
  • Innovative life-skills seminars in a supportive group setting where they discuss parenting and other related issues
  • Tutoring
  • Basic computer skills training
  • Resume writing and job readiness coaching 
  • Pre/post natal education 
  • Health and safety workshops 
  • Parenting workshops


The population of Siena House is very diverse, consisting of a wide array of cultures and life experiences.  Typically, the average family at Siena House consists of a 22-year-old mother who is either pregnant or has one child under the age of three.  In the majority of cases, a Siena House resident has not graduated from high school and has had less than six months of work experience.
